WHO IS JESUS CHRIST?
In a simple word, Jesus Christ is God at work reconciling men and women to himself through a perfect human life, substitutionary death on the cross, resurrection from the dead, and ascension to heaven. The story of Jesus is told in the Bible. The Bible tells is the story of God’s creation of all things, including human beings. It reminds us that God created men and women to have life from him and to live in the world he had created for them in right relationship with himself. Unfortunately, human beings have always chosen to worship the creation rather than the Creator, so they have forfeited that purpose for which God made them. However, God was not willing to leave humanity without the possibility of eternal life, and so he became human as Jesus Christ.
We celebrate the reality of God being with us at Christmas.
In order to restore human beings to right relationship with God, Jesus lived a human life of perfect obedience to the will and wisdom of God to make it possible for all humanity to benefit. He was executed on a cross in order to take on the disobedience of all human beings and sacrifice himself for us all. He was then resurrected from the dead as a re-creation of humanity.
We celebrate the reality of Jesus’ resurrection and our own new life in him at Easter.
God has made a way for human beings to have their sins forgive, to receive eternal life, to know God himself by living as a follower of Jesus until life ends, and to live forever in heaven in the presence of God.
We celebrate the reality of knowing God himself every Sunday in worship and every day in our lives.
